RECLAIMING THE JEWEL OF AFRICA Nigeria sitting on a keg of gunpowder....Obasanjo Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, took a critical look at the state of the nation and concluded that Nigeria was sitting perilously on a keg of gunpowder. Obasanjo said the country was pushing many citizens into poverty because of poor implementation of good policies. He lamented that over the past 63 years, Nigeria had not lived up to expectations as the much-taunted giant of Africa, thus disappointing the continent and the world, at large. The former president spoke in Abuja in a keynote address at the public presentation of a book titled, “Reclaiming the Jewel of Africa,” written by a former Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, who had also served as Minister of Finance, Olusegun Aganga. Obasanjo said the disappointment cut across the board. Obasanjo, who addressed the audience at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, virtually, said even though “Nigeria is a potential jewel ...

GROUP CHIDES OLAYEMI, SUNKANMI ON IRRESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP Leadership and positions of power must be attached with commensurate responsibility. This is the view of the Egbeda Youth Vanguard (EYV) after an emergency meeting on Sunday 23 rd July 2023. Mr Layi Oyedeji, the Chairman of EYV said two events over the weekend show Hon Busari Olayemi and the Member representing Egbeda in the Oyo   State House of Assembly, Hon Olasunkanmi as neither responsible nor responsive. SEVEN PROMINENT NIGERIANS AGAINST CONSTITUTIONAL REVIEW,THEIR REASONS

Image
SEVEN PROMINENT  NIGERIANS AGAINST CONSTITUTIONAL REVIEW,THEIR REASONS Meanwhile, many groups and individuals have opposed the ongoing review. While some said the process is a waste of time, others argued that the review is a waste of money. According to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, the review is a complete waste of time. “What is constitutional review? It is just a complete waste of time really. In 2014, they took people to Abuja, they stayed there and they produced a document. Yes, President Jonathan did not sign it because he thought he was going to be re-elected and wanted to sign it after coming back,” he said in an interview with Vanguard newspaper on June 14. “That document has been on their table since 2015, what have they done with it? Yes, during the life of each National Assembly session, they vote money for the review of the constitution and the National Assembly has to spend the money. That is the exercise going on in there. If anything comes...

BUSARI OLAYEMI AND THE FIVE MILLION NAIRA BRIBE. Silence means guilt......EYV

Image
Olayemi and the five million naira bribe: Silence means guilt. We received the above news with Shock and disbelieve. We felt the personalities indicted in the issue will come out and clear the air. We also chose to make our own findings by speaking with  some people in Ona Ara local government. They all confirmed the allegations made by the Concerned Ona Ara PDP Members. According to them Olayemi Busari and his co-travellers should respond if they have any defence. To date, none of the alleged “leaders” has deemed it fit to as much as say a single word. This to us looks like guilt. What bothers us most in this case is that a man who can collude to commit such a dastardly act in Ona Ara, another local government, want to take up the position of leadership in Egbeda Local Government. Egbeda Youth Vanguard feels ashamed that such a person comes from our own Local Government. We are therefore giving Hon Olayemi to live up to the title “Honorable” and come out with a ...

BEWARE OF BUSARI OLAYEMI……EYV WARNS MAKINDE Egbeda Youths Vanguard (EYV) is a coalition youth clubs and associations from all the wards of Egbeda Local Government. The group seized the opportunity to congratulate the governor of Oyo State His Excellency Governor Oluseyi Makinde on his electoral victory and Omi Titun 2.0. The EYV however cautioned the Governor to be wary of Honorable Busari Olayemi and other people who are in cahoots with him to hijack the benefits accruing to Egbeda for their own selfish ends. The group also noted that Honorable Olayemi has never contributed meaningfully to the electoral fortune of the party both now and in the past. Olayemi, they claim has always turned against all great leaders of Egbeda. Now he wants to be a leader by bribing greedy party leaders to the detriment of the teeming masses of our local government. Mr Layi Oyedeji, the Chairman of EYV, said the governor should be careful about entrusting the fortunes of Egbeda in the hands...

PDP WILL SURVIVE WITHOUT WIKE ….OSADOLOR

Image
PDP WILL SURVIVE WITHOUT WIKE ….OSADOLOR A member of the Peoples Democratic Party National Executive Committee, Timothy Osadolor, has called on the leadership of the party to sanction former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, over his association with the All Progressives Congress and the Bola Tinubu-led presidency. He said the party would survive if Wike was expelled, noting that no individual could be bigger than the party. Osadolor, who is the Deputy National Youth Leader of the PDP, in an interview with  Saturday PUNCH  recently, noted that the despite efforts made by the various organs of the party to appease Wike and make him return to the PDP fold; the former governor had continued to show disrespect to the party at every given opportunity. According to him, the soft disposition of the PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, towards Wike, largely accounts for the reason he was still laying claim to PDP membership. He said if he were to swap role...

Subsidy Removal: CISLAC condemns N70b Palliative For National Assembly Members

Image
Subsidy Removal: CISLAC condemns N70b Palliative For National Assembly Members The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has condemned the palliative measures announced by the Federal Government to cushion the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy. In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani on Friday the Civil Society Organisation expressed concerns over the sincerity of the disbursement process. The group decried the imbalance in the allocation of the palliative fund noting that 469 legislators get N24.875 million each, while the more vulnerable public beneficiaries get N8,000 each monthly. The group said, “It is expected that the fiscal space created by the subsidy withdrawal must be provided for wider public goods and the resources saved could be reallocated to those groups most affected by the reform by adopting complementary measures. “More worrisomely, a breakdown of the amended N819.5 billion supplementary budget shows th...

Image
LOCAL OVERNMENT POLLS: GROUP WARNS IMPOSTORS A sociopolitical group called The North East Forum has warned on people it described as political impostors to desist from their present journey of perdition before it is too late. Speaking through its Secretary Alhaji Yekini Anisere, the group alleged that some people are bent on subverting the wishes of the people of the local government, especially members of the Peoples Democratic Party. The people according to him have the inalienable right to choose the person to head the affairs of the council. Anisere told PNT that a stakeholders meeting was held as agreed at the PDP local government party secretariat on Thursday morning during which Samuel Ogunjobi emerged as the consensus candidate of the party for the 2024 local government chairmanship election. The group was however shocked when Alhaji Isiaka Fatokun, the party chairman in cahoots with some other impostors announced they had selected the Incumbent council chairman...
